Dr. Rosalyn | Changes
Hello all,
Haven't posted in a while because I had to recover from the trip, keep teaching my classes, try to manage some things in the office and keep waiting to hear about the whole promotion process. Classes officially wrap in two weeks so yeah. I'm mostly recovered from the ten days away and several nights of virtually no sleep because of an issue that cropped up. Yeah for a wide enough time change that people are still working when you are trying to get some sleep. I've been able to hear from students repeatedly how much they enjoyed the trip and that gives me good feelings about a job well done now and a tentative plan for the next time.
Since we've returned I have had some other positive things take place as well. I found out that I was awarded the Chancellor's Diversity Award again. I will share honors with an equally impressive person from the staff side of the house: Kate Aguilar. I was able to secure new computers for my graduate student cohort as well as myself and two department members so we can help pilot a program the university is thinking of rolling out. More students who wanted to get into graduate school have done so--yeah. Others have a good plan for their gap year--yeah. I added new Funko Pops to my office which isn't so much a thing that took place more so than a thing I did but gotta love Goose and pre eye patch Nick Fury.
And probably most significantly I was notified before I loaded up a bus of 13 students to go to Chicago for a conference that my promotion had been approved and effective July 1st I would become a Clinical Associate Professor. I'll be honest and say I was too tired and had a multitude of things on my plate at that point to fully enjoy that notice. It also made me consider if I wanted to stay in a position like this now that I had hit the perceived goal. That's at least in small part due to other discussions I've been in that recognize the work that clinical and lecturer lines put in (on my campus we're the ones running the graduate programs outside of nursing) but the limits to our advancement unless we want to come out of the classroom entirely. Regardless, this is an accomplishment and I do appreciate that my work to date was recognized by those in a position to do so.
So that's my update for today. Going to enjoy the temporary status of having nothing to grade. Have a good weekend.
