Dr. Rosalyn | Self-Care Summer

It's the middle of the night and I totally should be sleeping but my schedule is off because after a good full day yesterday I went to the gym again today, fourth visit this week, and then crashed hard.  I got up and made dinner and then sat around and did a bunch of nothing.  That's actually a good thing for me.  I tend to overschedule and thus overwork and then I'm tired as I shared in my last post.

A few different things are wrapping up over the next week but in advance of that I needed to get back on my self-care grind.  I was great about this a few years ago which is when I dropped a bunch of weight and was enjoying life more.  I've been doing bits and pieces of self-care over the last year but this last year was hectic if you remember from my P&T posts.  However, I haven't consistently did any of it.  So for the next few months I'm committed to whatever I need to do to balance my life out a bit more than I have been thus far.  For now that means doing things on the following list in as much abundance as possible:

  • Get to the gym.  My head is always clearer after a good work out.  It helps me sleep.  I'm surprisingly not as hungry as much after the gym so it's a good thing.
  • Sign up for tennis lessons.  I want to see if things are easier now that I'm sans glasses.  I gotta work on my serve.
  • Massage heaven.  90 minutes once a month is all ya need to enjoy life.  I might use the massage bed at Planet Fitness once a week on the non massage weeks but I might just do it each time because my body does enjoy the shake out.
  • Get back to regular and regimented eating.  It's not that hard and it's better for my health among other things.
  • Squeeze in a quick staycation or short vacation.
  • Paint the house.  Well most of it.
  • Finish the landscaping.
  • Remove and repair the fence.
  • Keep looking for new opportunities to pursue.
  • Maintain a reduced work schedule.
  • Work ahead on fall classes.
  • Sleep.
  • Read more books for fun.
  • Connect with other scholars who do the work I'm interested in doing.
  • Figure out which of my data that has been collected needs to be analyzed first and try to get something out there.
It's a random list but I'm excited about most of it.  The other stuff that I'm not excited about still will be more interesting than constantly being available on campus and then stressed out and tired when I finally do get home.  I know how to adult.  Just gotta get back to it now.
